  • Visit historic vibrant temples and monasteries set amidst striking Himalayan scenery
  • Enjoy easy day walks through ancient villages

Experience fascinating ancient cultures amidst the spectacular pristine beauty of remote regions of Indian Himalaya.  So dramatic is the land that on one side there are dense forests, fruit orchards and lush green valleys, while on the other, rugged and barren mountains and miles and miles of high-altitude desert.  In this region of hill stations, fertile valleys, lunar landscapes and rarefied mountain air, local inhabitants have carved out a spartan existence in the pockets of habitable terrain. Kinnaur and Spiti Valley, two districts set within remote areas of the Indian Himalaya and bordering Tibet, are the highlights of this very special and educational cultural tour experience.

During our immersive cultural tour we visit traditional villages and ancient monasteries containing priceless collections of thangkas, sculptures and wall paintings and enjoy private meetings with lamas.  Go where few people have gone before with this unique Indian Himalayan tour experience.

Day 3-4: Shimla - Sarahan - Sangla
Enjoy a stroll around Shimla, our entry to the Indian Himalayas. Travel to lush Sarahan village surrounded by apple orchards and dominated by Shrikhand Mahadev Peak. Journey through Sangla Valley, by far the most beautiful valley of Himachal Pradesh, surrounded by green fields and high mountain peaks.

Day 5-6: Kalpa
Indian Himalayan adventure tourism at its best with easy pleasant walks on pedestrian only paths to the ancient and exquisite villages of Chitkul, Chini, Peo, Kothi, Pangi and Telangi.

Day 7: Nako
A thrilling day exploring Nako village perched high above Spiti Valley while enjoying the gentle buddhist culture of its inhabitants. The austere and exteriors of the stone buildings give little hint of the important artistic and religious legacy that lies within.

Day 8: Tabo
Today we enter Spiti Valley where the mountains are devoid of any vegetation due to erosion over thousands of years. Built in 996 AD, the Chos Khor Monastery at Tabo is the largest in Spiti. It houses more than 100 Lamas and students as young as 6 years old, and preserves a large number of ancient scriptures, murals and thangkas.

Day 9-10: Kaza
View wildlife at Pin Valley National Park. Visit the ancient Gompas at Ki and Kibber, and the village of Gete, which are among the highest inhabited villages in the world.

Day 11-14: Manali - Kullu Valley - Taragarh
Our cultural tour of the Indian Himalayas continues over the exhilarating Kunzum Pass to Manali and the quaint Nagar Village with its many ancient temples. Onward thru Kullu Valley and the villages of Bir, Baijnath, and Palampur. Visit Tibetan settlements, fine gompas and the Sherabilling monastery where we will hear the Grammy Award-winning chants of the monks.

Day 15-16: Daramsala - Amritsar - Home
The journey culminates with a wonderful contrasting experience. Stroll around the town where His Holiness the Dalai Lama resides and circumambulate his monastery with the locals.  We'll follow this with a visit to Amritsar, one of the most ancient and fascinating cities in India, in the Himalayan foothills state of Punjab.  Ample time to reflect at the glorious Golden Temple of the Sikhs.

Day 17: Amritsar - Delhi - Home
Return to Delhi for departure.
