Kumbh Mela is a sacred Hindu pilgrimage that takes place on a rotation basis at four locations in India: Prayag (near Allahabad, at the confluence of three rivers-Ganges, Yamuna and Saraswati), Nasik, Haridwar and Ujjain. The pilgrimage occurs four times every twelve years, once at each of the four locations. Each twelve-year cycle includes the Maha (great) Kumbha Mela at Prayag, attended by millions of people, making it the largest pilgrimage gathering around the world.
On this journey to the grand mela, we shall viist four of the 12 sacred jyotirlings (Shiva Shrines). These are rarey visited by westerners.
We will stay at the deluxe Thar Camp in Allahabd for an up-close location and true immersion. The camp has ac, comfortable beds and attached western bathrooms with hot water showers.
The trip is planned to be at the Mela for Magh Purnima (full moon day).

Day 1-2: Meet in Delhi
>We shall visit the enormous Akshardham Temple Complex that depicts Hindu mythoogy and Indian culture. The temple has 234 ornate pillars, 20,000 statues; the complex consists of exhibition halls, imax theater and a musical fountain surrounded by an elaborate garden
Day 3-4: Varanasi
Tour the Ganges in a country boat at sunrise. Visit Sarnath, where Buddha gave his first sermon. The old city wil be a flurry of activity as pilgrims perform reverence here on their way to/from Allahabad.
Day 5-7: Allahabad
Experience the Ardh Kumbh Mela and participate in traditional ceremonies and rituals. This is not a show for the tourists but one of the most important pilgrimages a Hindu can make in his lifetime.
Day 8-9: Lucknow
Tour Lucknow, known for its Nawabi heritage and architectural brilliance.
Day 10-11: Haridwar
We shall join hundreds of locals along the banks of the Ganges to attend an ancient prayer ritual called the Har ki Pauri.
Day 12: Rishikesh
A pleasant city, we'll visit ashrams, attend events and enjoy quiet time.
Day 13: Delhi-Depart
