Tehran is a bustling cities so many interesting museums. We aim to visit as much as possible during the two days we are in Tehran.

The opulent Golestan Palace Museum Complex, the oldest of the historic monuments in Tehran. This is the former residence of the 19th – early 20th century Qajar Kings of Iran. One fabulous example is the Marble Throne Room.

The Museum of Ancient Iran (Archaeological Museum) displays an authentic collection of pottery, bronze and valuable pieces from millenniums BC until the Islamic era. The objects on display have been found from different regions of Iran including Susa, Persepolis, and many other ancient sites.

The Museum of the Islamic Era (which has been under renovation for 9 years) has finally opened in late 2015. It contains arts and antiquities from throughout the Islamic period. This museum provides an excellent introduction to Iran.

Enjoy the fabulous National Jewels Museum with its extraordinary collection of gemstones and jewelry.

Attend a guided tour through the lovely Abguineh Glass and Ceramics Museum, View a beautiful collection of glass and pottery from different periods. The exquisite museum is located in the historical part of Tehran.

Embark on a day excursion to the foothills of the Darband Mountains. Visit the former residence of the ex-Royal Family of Iran at Sa’ad-Abad Palace/Museum Complex.

JOURNEY TO ANCIENT TOWNS AND SMALL VILLAGES

Upon leaving Tehran, our Iran tour travels at a nice easy pace with ample time to absorb the ambiance and feel the sense of “being there.”

Visits to major historic sites are dispersed with stops in small villages to observe traditional lifestyles.  These are places where locals gather such as port towns, the spa town Sarein and Ramsar– the old riveria of Iran and the Lut Desert.

Cities visited include Shiraz, Kerman, Yazd and Isfahan. In addition, the Comprehensive Iran tour includes Tabriz and Mashad.

    Day 1-3: Tehran

    Arrive Tehran. Visit National Museum, National Jewels Museum, the opulent Golestan Palace/Museum Complex, Grand Tehran Bazaar, Reza Abbasi Museum, Sa'ad-Abad Palace/Museum Complex.

    Day 4-6: Shiraz

    Full day Shiraz city tour. Excursion to Perespolis.

    Day 7-8: Kerman

    Spectacular mountains and fruit orchards on the drive today. En-route visits. Excursion to two traditional villages. City touring including the magnificent citadel, mosques, mausoleums and museums.

    Day 9-10: Kerman - Lut Desert

    Tour of the 14th century Jameh Mosque. Excursion to Lut Desert, a large salt desert.

    Day 10-11: Yazd

    Visit Iran's Zoroastrian community. Many beautiful old houses to be seen. Visit the Tower of Silence and the Zoroastrian Fire Temple, where the fire has been burning for 1500 years.

    Day 12-14: Yazd - Isfahan

    En-route visit a small desert town as well as a small village to see traditional workshops. Comprehensive toue of Isfahan. Amble time to soak up the ambiance of Iran's most beautiful city.

    Day 15: Abyaneh

    An interesting small village hidden in the mountains, Abyaneth is the last town to surrender to Islam. The residents still maintain their ancient cultural identity.

    Day 16: Kashan - Tehran

    Visit the historical Garden of Fin and Borujerdi House en-route to Tehran.

    COMPREHENSIVE TOUR
    Day 17: Qazvin-Hamadan

    Visit the glittering shrine of Shahzdeh Hussain (a Shi’ite Saint) and the extensive Friday Mosque of Qazvin; tour Hamadan; stop at Kangavar-a small town of great antiquity.

    Day 18: Hamadan-Bisotun

    In Hamadan visit the Tomb of Esther & Mordecai, a major Jewish pilgrimage center, the 12th century Alavyan Tomb Tower, the Tomb of Avicenna and Ganjnameh. Drive to Kermanshah, visit the magnificent Sassanian reliefs.

    Day 19: Kermanshah-Takab

    en-route stop in Bisotun to see the important Relief/Inscription of Darius the Great, which is 4000 feet high. In Takab visit the ancient site of Takht-e-Soleiman. Visit the ancient site of Takht-e-Soleiman (throne of Soleman), located in a remote mountain valley near Takab.

    Day 20: Takab-Maraghe

    visit the beautiful Seljuk tomb-towers (12th century) of Maraghe including the tower of Gonbad-e-Sorkh, with its fantastic brickwork. We also visit the site of the observatory of Maragheh (1259-1272), and Mulla Rostam Mosque and its beautiful prayer hall.

    Day 21: Maraghe-Kandovan-Tabriz

    Stop at the intriguing troglodyte village of Kandovan where people live in homes carved from the rocks for centuries. Enjoy an in-depth exploration of Tabriz. The traditional bazaar of Tabriz is one of the most extensive in Iran.

    Day 22: Tabriz-Ardebil-Sarein

    Drive to Ardebil to visit the Mausoleum of Sheikh Safi-eddin Ardebili, a widely revered Sufi leader of the 14th century. Afternoon is independent. Overnight in the spa town of Sarein, where local Iranians come to enjoy the natural hot springs.

    Day 23: Sarein- Bandar-e-Anzali

    Drive to Anzali via the spectacular Heyran Pass and Astara. Bandar-e-Anzali is a small port town, with some character, and is the major port on the Caspian.

    There are no mosques/tombs/sites, which we think you may have seen quite a lot of, making this a refreshing change and chance to observe daily life in a small towns and browse the local handicrafts bazaars. Enjoy the Anzali Lagoon.

    Day 24: Bandar-e-Anzali-Ramsar

    Enjoy a short excursion to the traditional village of Massuleh, one of the oldest and longest inhabited villages in Iran. Afterwards, rive along the Caspian Coastal Road and small towns and villages to Ramsar, the 'old' Riviera of Iran, for overnight.

    Day 25: Ramsar-Gorgan

    Drive via Chalus and Sari, with short stops to visit local markets and interact with local people; also visit the port town of Bandar-e-Turkmen to visit local bazaar.

    Day 26-27: Gorgan-Mashad

    Drive via Gonbad-e-Qabus, to visit the highest brick structure in the world and one of the oldest tomb-towers in Iran- the Tomb-Tower of Qabus-ibn-e-Voshmgir, dating to the 10th century. Continue to the ancient town of Neishapur to visit the tombs of Iran's celebrated mystic poets Omar Khayyam and Attari. Full day immersive visit of Mashad, Iran's holiest city.
