Romania Tour
Myths & Magic of Romania
Travel to Romania and visit its beautiful towns and country villages on a small group Romania tour. Romania conjures visions of picturesque villages, folklore and crafts, unspoiled countryside and the charm of friendly people living their traditional ways.
The Romania tour starts with an exploration of Bucharest’s historic, architectural and cultural sites.
We cross the Carpathian Mountains to Sibiu, one of the oldest Saxon towns in Transylvania. We enjoy Sibiu’s medieval town with quaint cobblestone streets, pastel houses, 15-16th century town square and old city walls. Another tour highlight is a horse and carriage ride through the open air museum of Astra.
In the mountain village of Sibiel we visit the painted glass icon museum to learn about this unique Romanian art.
Next is Sighisoara, with its walled citadel on the hilltop. It has secret gateways and passages, and 14th century clock tower. Sighisoara is infamous as the birthplace of Prince Vlad Tepes, or Vlad the Impaler, widely acknowledged as the inspiration for Bram Stocker’s Dracula.
Onward to Maramures, known for its wooden churches, carved wooden gates, unique folk attire and traditions such as the brightly colored “Merry Cemetery.”
We admire the famous painted monasteries of northern Moldova. The Voronet Monastery (UNESCO), built in 1488, is one of the most beautiful and is dubbed the “Sistine Chapel of the East.”
